Obama Unicorn T Shirt

Unicorn Creek & boulder field
Unicorn Creek at the bottom of this photo. The place I took a rest and snack break is at the top of the boulder field at the top of this photo.
July 22nd, 2008 - with Mt. Rainier Park totally enveloped in a thick white misty cloud - - I hiked up past Bench Lake, then across a snow field. There I climbed a large boulder field on the west side of the valley, where, if the clouds cleared (they never did), I would have a spectacular view of Snow Lake below and Unicorn Peak behind it.
From my perch high atop the boulder field, I broke out some trail mix and my small plastic tri-pod for a couple of self portraits (I was hiking solo).
Joining me figuratively for my snack break were hoary marmots and pikas galore. Joining my literally for my snack break was a cheeky little Townsend chipmunk.
After enjoying a long relaxed rest at the top of the boulder field I traversed along the cliff base then hiked down the slope to where Unicorn Creek empties into Snow Lake.
Visibility was still less than 100 yards, but the quiet serenity made it a memorable visit to a place I have been many time in many seasons.
I saw lots of wildlife that day including a pair of silver fox, who now appear to be making them a steady sight in the area (we saw one of them last month in the same general area). But my favorite mountain creature has always been and always will be: Ochotona princeps - - the pika.

Being arrested as some kind of weird pervert taking sneak pictures of young ladies on the London Underground holds no fear for this member of the I-Spy Tribe. The girl on the left was wearing a 'My Little Pony Unicorn' t-shirt, and I claim my 10 points. And potentially a slap in the face and a criminal record
