A bicycle seat, unlike a saddle is designed to support 100% of the riders weight and is found attached to a recumbent bicycle. Arthur Garford is credited as the inventor of the padded bicycle seat in 1892.

This bicycle seat has seen many miles on the road. That said I liked the long tongue and lack of padding. Both of which were essential for me to ride 200 miles a day ~ that's how I spent many days during the 2001-2003 time frame.

This must be the Rolls Royce of the children seat on a bicycle with seat belt and padding to soften any rough ride and a puzzling red button for some mystery action: or would it be the drinks cabinet?
