What you see here is my 2 month old Shimano Acera rear derailleur. After riding Shimano LX for years I never doubted the quality of Shimano components. Buying my new bike just for cycling around my neighborhood on paved roads only components were not of real importance for me.
The feel of shifting with the rapid fire leavers was great and I honestly started asking myself why LX components are so much more expensive….
…well couple of days ago shifting started to get quite imprecisely. And then on my way to the supermarket… whoops diiduuuu… -> The rear derailleur fell off. First thought something might have loosened, but as you can see in the picture it just broke into pieces!
Mmm… wouldn’t have expected that. Especially because Shimano describes Acera as a component which “delivers the responsive feeling of a serious mountain bike to casual riders and entry-level cyclists”. Well, as described earlier feeling was awesome, the rest might be a material failure.
