Lenovo T500 ThinkPad Review

The design of the T500 has changed a bit. "The changes are subtle to the untrained eye, but they are. The right side is slightly sloped similar to what can be found on the old T4x series, where the sides angle inward instead of leaving the aircraft. First sign of this is the front of the optical drive, which seems to be a nice beveled edge. The rubber feet were a bit "changed, now feeling softer than before, at least on the surface of glide office. As for small design changes if the ThinkPad is so conservative (boring), and all those that precede it.

The modernization and expansion is a step harder than most laptops, but still very simple. To access all parts replaceable by the user, simply remove five screws and carefully remove the palmrest and keybard. Here you have access to an open WWAN slot, another for Turbo Memory or UWB, two DDR3 memory slots and wireless card. At this point, you can also see the processor and heatsink, but a few additional items must be removed before you can pick up objects off. Although this configuration seems that Lenovo is trying to block your way to improve the parts that allow anyone to manage all the components to update or add to their notebook without voiding the warranty. Processor Swap or play with other advanced components might not be kosher, though. The hard drive is the only access from outside the box (besides the battery) and can be easily removed with a screw.

The build quality is very similar to the previous generation T61, with all its strengths and weaknesses. The finish is excellent with several parties, but still a lot of maneuvering in the back of the 3R305, Inspiron 2500 Battery and the cheaper feeling plastic LCD cover. The molded plastic panels throughout the notebook feel strong sense in general terms, very similar to the previous generation of laptops. Compared to the pre-Lenovo Thinkpads, the T500 feels leaps and bounds better. Now, the T500 is not without flaws, and the new keyboard definitely falls into the category of defects.

The cooling system worked very well, keeping the overall system temperature down, and do not make much noise. At idle and low Fan T500 remained at low speed (nearly inaudible), keeping the CPU temperature of around 40 ° C in about 50 ° C and the GPU. While the games, the highest temperature due to the speed of the ventilation system, but even at maximum speed still seemed quieter than my T60. The outside temperature is high in all situations, and games. Sitting around surfing the Web or a written document, the handset is very cold and no heat build up. The game is different, and the T500 is much hotter than the whole affair, and a little 'hot spots on the bottom.

Battery

Unlike the T400, which has seen a huge jump in A42-W3 battery life than the previous generation 14 "notebook computers because of the LED backlit display, the battery is in line with the T500 15.4" T61. While the 9-cell battery on the T400 gave 7-8 hours of battery life, the same capacity in the T500 barely manages six hours. The main differences between each notebook are the screen size, backlit technology, and model of graphics card, since all other options are the same.

In dedicated graphics mode, the screen brightness by 60%, and wireless active the T500 managed 5 hours and 6 minutes before the close of the remaining 5%. Although it is still well below the T400 for a couple of hours, is still very impressive for a 15 "laptop. Grahics integrated mode with the same configuration, the system has been a year and a half more, so that the average consumption of about 13 watts to 11 watts. 9-cell battery gives you enough time to watch a movie or two on a flight, or even do some work. "

Conclusion

The Lenovo T500 as a whole is a big step for the T61, with a line of a faster processor, better graphics, better cooling, a touch screen larger, and even a digital video output of the laptop itself. System performance was phenomenal, approaching the levels of desktop or A31-S5, A31-S6 to play. What is not so great is the famous ThinkPad keyboard guides us in what was solid rock. If this change was to reduce costs or reduce weight, Lenovo should have known better not to mess with the most important part of any ThinkPad notebook. Make no mistake, the keyboard is still much better than a budget laptop keyboard, but not as good as it once was.
