But they "are" also something else. They are a Life lesson. One of the most important lessons in Life is... "It is what it is", i.e. accepting things, and others, as what they truly are. A lesson I already 'knew', but one which was really 'driven home' for me by my friend in Philly, Kim. This picture is dedicated to her.
I was amazed at the number of flower shots that sprung up on Flickr during February! There certainly aren't any flowers around here yet. Everything is still tinted with the grays and browns of Winter in my area. Some of the Flickr flowers which appeared were due to photographers living in different parts of the world where flowers are blooming now, and some of them were admittedly 'store bought'. There's nothing wrong with that. I was thinking about doing it myself, but I was just too cheap, and too lazy, to do it! So instead, I opted to find beauty in something... anything... that was here at the time, and I came up with the above. It is what it is! : )

Made Explore!! #403
troubadour
Today is 8 March, international Women's day. A very controversial date where I live. No we don't want only one day per year say the women. In the socialist days it was abused by both men and women. The caricature says men would buy a cheapest flower for their colleagues (carnation) and women would bring home-made food and drinks and men would once again get stuffed and drunk... To escape that, women would organise shopping sprees in Trieste... But that was long ago....
I dedicate this carnation to the troubadours who have survived the war of the genders, and to the fisherman who cut this particular one in his garden on a rainy day
