Decision Time
My map showed a road going over the pass at this point, but a tunnel has been built.
This picture was taken after I went through the tunnel. At the other side the road is completely closed off (and what is left is extremely rough and steep).
Riding through the tunnel wasn't too bad. I looked back along the road and reckoned that there were no vehicles for at least 5km, which should give me time to get through the 1150m tunnel without having anything come up behind me.
There was a gravel shoulder all the way through the tunnel, a few laybys to stop, and it was well lit. I rode on the road so I could get through quickly, but a could see bike tyre tracks on the shoulder. At the campsite in the evening, I met the cyclist who had left those tracks.
Nearby is another tunnel: the Faskru?sfjor?ur Tunnel is over 5km long. Fortunately cyclists can use a coastal road instead.

This road is near where I used to go mountain biking with the boys -- wicked memories. It's been probably 12 years since we've rode together -- feels like an eternity ago, but not really, know what I mean?
I don't have any shots of us riding, but I do have a few old film shots of my bike (a GIANT ATX870), and 1 of my bike & me -- i'll see about posting those soon (maybe with a few of my old film shots that I took w/my F80).
I took various shots of this road - from down low, normal height, standing on my truck's running board. The colour versions definitely didn't pass. The sepia didn't do it for me either but the B&W sort of caught my eye. It's not a special shot by any means, just a a shot I took randomly as I drove down this road.
