AEC "Roman" Regent 5
Whilst on my Italian Railways adventure in the summer of 1988, I came across this old girl electrically tethered to an adjacent building in the centre of Rome, together with a statue of some geezer wearing a frock, who's sole purpose in life appears to be the holding of a worn 26 x 1 3/8" Dunlop bicycle tyre and the impeding of my artistic (but sometimes drastic) photographic content i.e. a bus, ten thousand cobble stones and two crap buildings, one of which has an early style satellite dish disguised as a tree...on the roof !
If you enlarge the photo, you will notice that the bus might be in use as a cycle hire shop of some description....note the light suspended from the nearside upper deck windows.
I'm presuming it's an AEC Regent 5 (the radiator grille is baffling me a little, although I do get confused sometimes with Renown, Bridgemaster etc etc).
The registration is/was VWN 957 (so I presume pre 63), the bus externally appears to have Welsh connections and was seen here somewhere in the centre of Rome on 18th August 1988.
I would like to have investigated further....but I was rushing to catch a train !
Triumph Light Roadster
Running Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tyres in 26 x 1 3/8. Original Dunlop Westwood rims are in OK condition - the front is better than the rear. Original Raleigh hubs.
The brakes work.. sort of. I wouldn't fancy doing an emergency stop from 30mph with them but they do the job at slower speeds.
