Mall-Goth {Relive the 90's}
The occuring of mall goth appeared around the gothic scene of the late 90's. Elder goths refer to them as baby bats, the crow movie brought interest towards the culture and Marilyn Manson (who isn't goth at all) in his 'Smell Like Children' album surged popularity toward the scene. Most mall-goths go to stores such as the famous Hot Topic and even halloween stores for their aesthetic. Understanding and knowing gothic culture, even its history is important for any goth. Though there are various forms of gothic music, mall-goths prefer the mainstream style known as pop-goth. Pop-goth describes bands such as Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Evanescence, Willam Control and Nightwish. Mall-Goths are only semi-gothic though (quarter gothic) being they don't make their own clothes, nor do they listen to the bands many stress are really gothic and they hardly attend gothic festivals or clubs. Their clothing generally consists of a band shirt (their favorite pop-goth artist), a choker and wristbands made of nails and black duct tape (electric pros tape), they generally at chokers and other forms of wristbands to their look, black nails, clown white face with black makeup and eyeliner art, a spiked belt, Tripp jeans that have chains on the sides and pins on the pockets, if nothing features color in thier aesthetic then they wear tennis shoes (they prefer shoes over boots or sandals) that have color. Aside the psuedo goths (more like black metal kids) they don't live up to any gothic stereotypes. The scene went all the way until 1999 when two psycho paths Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold who both wore black and smuggled weapons into their school using trench coats then started killing countless innocent people, not desiring to be caught and arrested they committed suicide. Eric Harris had it in his mind he was above god though he went to church and prayed too, he became the shining example of what piety can do to a person. Apparently he wanted to kill the people who wouldn't worship him (confessing they believed in god). But all that is history yet it managed to point to what they wore and that linked as gothic to everyone's mind and thus prejudism outlashed against goths everywhere. The scene ended on that day too, cause after the Columbine shootings no one wanted to be gothic anymore. Yet let's not point to dark days and terrible stereotypes when we think of goth, let's know it before we judge it!
