Second, you want to make sure that you are taking the time that you need to understand how you are going to catch the ball. Grounding the ball and catching the ball will be part of your game, no matter what position you are playing. You want to make sure that you learn how you are going to catch the ball depending on where it is coming from. If it is rolling on the ground, you should be able to reach your mitt down and swoop the ball up from the ground. When the ball is in the air you should know how you are going to hold the mitt to catch the ball. Make sure that you are protecting your body and your other hand from the ball when it is coming at you full speed. Finally, you should also make sure that you know how you are going to run the bases. There are a lot of people that struggle getting up enough speed to make it to first base in that short amount of time. When you are trying to make it that short distance in that short amount of time, you should make sure that you understand how you can start with a lot of power. Learn how you are going to push yourself through the base to ensure that you do not slow down before you get there.
