1914 Bicycle Tyres Dunlop Poetic
Mid-1910s: Dutch Ad for Dunlop Bike Tyres
The war is far away. No rhyme art of the first order. But nice to read.
I have tried to translated the poem, but I do not know the exact English equivalent of many old Dutch words. In Dutch it sounds quite formal and stiff in my 'modern' ears.
A summer shower
Sheltering from the rain
Under foliage,
A cycling couple
Nest at ease.
SHE speaks about the rain,
HE about sunshine
End that soon the cycling path
Will be dry again.
Magnificent that driving
In this summer time
With such a beautiful, fast bike
She says, really happy.
"It worked," he agrees,
"The best pleasure on earth;
And, my darling, that's what you owe
DUNLOP with the beard.
