Solar Cooking Pot
- There have been a number of designs for barbecues that use solar power as a means of cooking food. The device usually involves the use of a curved mirror acting as a parabolic reflector, which focuses the rays of the sun on to a point where the food is to be heated.
- A solar oven or solar cooker is a device which uses sunlight as its energy source. Because they use no fuel and they cost nothing to run, humanitarian organizations are promoting their use worldwide to help slow deforestation and desertification, caused by using wood as fuel for cooking.

I saw many solar dishes in Nepal, mostly in remote areas, outside the reach of electricity which is generally unreliable. The only time I looked inside the cooking-pot, the water was boiling at high intensity.
-- These solar cookers help reduce the use of wood fuel, which helps save forests, reduces air pollution that can lead to respiratory problems and reduces carbon emissions that ultimately harm the planet we live on.
Cookit at the beach
This is a simple Solar Cookit that I made for midday cooking. I used double thickness cardboard and reinforced the seams edges and junctures with reflective duct tape.
Although it does not fold down, it can be folded in half or thirds for portability. We take this to the beach and parks regularly as part of our solar cooking ensamble.
