Inn Of The Pillars
Khan el-Umdan, in the historical city of Akko, was built in 1784-5 by the Governor of Acre. The hostel was built on part of the inner harbor. In the Napoleon maps, used at the siege of 1799, the site still appeared as an inner port.
Khan el-Umdan ("The inn of the pillars") is named after the marble and granite pillars which decorate its interior. They were originally placed in Caesarea, but recycled In Ottoman times to decorate public buildings.
Nowadays, the khan is a tourist spot and also used as a open air stage during the festivals in the city, such as the Theater festival during the month of October.
Children of the temple
