project 365 note: today was a funny day... woke up not expecting to do much and then ryan and natalie offer to take us to see mt rainier. okay, i'm in but then as we try and get directions, we inadvertantly choose a wrong destination point on my gps and a trip that should have taken maybe an hour and a half took us about three and a half hours! i can't say i was upset because well, i enjoyed the company in the car. natalie is a pretty cool chick and i liked listening to her stories. plus some of the views we saw during our drive were pretty amazing... just like the one you see here. its funny, cos it seemed like the best part was the drive up there, cos once we got up to our destination which was the lodge, it kind of was a bit anticlimactic. i had seen better views of mt rainier from various points during our drive up and there was an "observation deck" which had to be one of the worst observation decks i had ever seen. you got better views from outside and once inside, trees blocked your view of mt rainier, the glass of the observation deck prevented you from taking any shots due to glare, and even if you could take a shot through the glare, the structure of the observation deck basically got in the way of the photo if you wanted to try and do a wide angle shot. so basically it was the journey that was more fun rather than the destination... but again, i don't really regret going because i had fun hanging out with ryan and natalie. was my day over? nope... after we got back... my mom and auntie grace still wanted to go visit uncle ben and auntie wilma in olympia so i borrowed kuya bert's toureg and drove them down there. naturally they played some mahjong and i just watched some travel channel while they played. they played till 3am! lets just say it was a loooooong day...

Premier jour de trajet, qui m'a fait comprendre pourquoi les GPS sont si repandus en Allemagne. Meme avec une carte, les indications donnees etaient vraiment risibles, et je me suis perdu deux fois. Une fois pour sortir de Augbsurg (suivre une departementale qui mene directement dans une impasse, c'est pas banal), une fois avant Sigmarigen (tous les villages s'apellaient Bad-qqch, du coup, je ne m'y retrouvais plus). Premiere chute aussi, a cause d'une deviation mal indiquee. Coup de gueule au type arrete au carrefour ou je suis tombe qui s'est contente de me regarder me ramasser avant de partir.
Au total, 2h de retard pour mon arrivee a Belfort, mais un tres joli passage de conduite le long du Danube et au travers de la Foret noire.
L'acceuil a Belfort a ete assure par un veteran du couch-surfing, Fabien, qui m'a fait decouvrir que le bon Comte, c'est bien meilleur que le gruyere !

First day of travel, making me immediatly understand why GPS devices are so popular in Germany. Directions given in cities were crap, even with a good map. I got lost twice. Once to get out of Augsburg (nobody would seriously expect to get into a dead-end while following a main road), and once before Sigmarigen where all the villages were "Bad-something" while following a deviation. This deviation was also the opportunity of my first fall, and I curse the guy stopped at the crossing were I fall who just watched me and did not help me to get up again.
Otherwise, I must say that even if it took me 2h more than expected, this way included two very nice roads along the Danube and crossing the Black Forest.
I stayed at a veteran couch-surfer place, Fabien. Thanks to show me how good can be a real Comte cheese.
