Sunset Above The Clouds
[Explored 18.10.2011]
On flight from Helsinki to Copenhagen.
I made a very unsettling discovery about 600 pictures into the 848 I took this weekend in Finland. On the way there I was practicing aerial night shots from the plane, and had jacked up the ISO to 3200. I also had a cheap polarizer on my smaller lens, which did not combine well with double-paned plexiglass plane windows.
The focus of the weekend was to have fun with friends, but obviously my camera was not to be excluded- however with a beer in hand (and belly), my judgement was about as clear as the bottom half of this picture.
I completely forgot about changing the ISO as we went mushroom picking (i.e the girls did the picking, I did the picturing). I also forgot I had the polarizer on while flying back again.
So, long story short - it was a great weekend, but not so great for pictures. It will take a whole lot of noise reduction but I should be able to salvage a couple.
If you have any special tricks for noise reduction or post-processing high ISO shots, let me know!
October 23, 2008: Cheap Van to NYC?
I was driving behind this van on my way home today and the window claims that ... something ... is $15. Not sure what it is, but if it's a ride from Philly to NYC, then it's a pretty good deal. I'm doubting that's the price but I took this photo so I could call them and get a quote (we're flying out of JFK for our trip to Japan). Don't worry, we were both stopped when I took the photo.
