The Tagus River, which is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula and so closely related to Portugal and especially to Lisbon, actually has its beginnings in Spain. When looking at the map of Spain, you will see that it starts in the mountains of Albarracin, almost on the Mediterranean Sea coast.
It does not matter if you start from Lisbon after arriving on your cheap flights and head up north to follow this fascinating river course, staying at discount accommodation, many of which are cute little rural homes and inns, or if you arrive from Spain in your car rental but the most outstanding feature of your holiday should be to take in different views of the Tagus River.

My first contribution to the Shoe Per Diem project. Waiting at Kansai International Airport to board my flight to New Zealand (the third flight in two days, all the way from Lisbon). These did a pretty good job at keeping me comfortable during the long trip. Bought them real cheap from Sport Zone in Lisbon (I think they were about 10 euros). Value for money, I say. Value for money!
