Google Earth Flight Tracking
Tracking commercial aviation flights is an activity by enthusiasts or concerned citizens. Tracking is not limited to aircraft activity, it can include tracking of airport activity. Flight tracking via software is a relatively new activity.
Google Earth is a virtual globe, map and geographic information program that was originally called EarthViewer 3D, and was created by Keyhole, Inc, a company acquired by Google in 2004.
Software made for viewing 3D maps of the Earth. People can customise map points on Google Earth by including photo, video content and text annotations, which can be saved to share with others.
Google Earth is an amazing free program that lets you explore the entire suface of the earth using a patchwork of satellite images.
Wellington - Nelson - Wellington
This is the GPS track from a flight I did in Aug 2006. Track was south from Wellington out over the Cook strait and onto Picton. From Picton we flew overhead Havlock and then onto a 'touch and go' at Nelson. Departed south from Nelson onto the Nelson lakes district to overhead the Lake Station airfield. Headed east to the Wairau river valley to track to the north of Blenheim and back over Cook strait. The approach into Wellington was from the west with a track that took us directly over Karori and then skirting around Mt Victoria onto a final approach for runway 16.

This is a Google Earth view of my flight track. The task involved flying from the South turn point, up to the North turnpoint, back to the South TP and then race to Goal. A total of 2.2 miles, but it was my first attempt at trying to get to certain points.
