1880 Wax Dolls
Two Victorian wax dolls in a Hamper given to Amelia Harriet Brown on her 5th birthday 28th April 1887.
Amelia Harriett, known as Mll, was born in Brighton on 27th April 1882. She was the second child of John Alexander (Jack) and eleanor Voules Brown. In 1885, after a year spent in Darwin where Jack worked as a publican and Clerk of the District Council, Elenor returned to Brighton with her children and lived at Voules Terrace. When Jack returned from Darwin nine years later , the family moved to Wiluna on Sturt Road, Brighton. The property then had 40 acres of vines, almonds and other fruit trees. FOllowing Eleanor's death in 1918, Jack and his daughters moved to a smaller house, Wenlock, at 15 Jetty Road, Brighton.
Mill finished nursing training in 1919 and continued to live at Wenlock.
As she became older and frail her housekeeper, Mrs Webb, looked after her. Eventually. Mill went to Ringwood Nursing Home (which now house the Holdfast Bay history center) during the day and was cared for during the night by her nice, Kate Brown.
Mill died in Harley Private Hospital , Brightin on 17th November 1972.
