Day 4 - Las Vegas - View from the hotel room

Day 4 - Las Vegas - View from the hotel room

Although it looks like Disneyland in places, Las Vegas really isn't a place for children and we were only passing through on the way to the Grand Canyon. It provided a convenient stopping place about 4 or 5 hours out of Los Angeles. We stayed in a hotel that wasn't a Casino and made good use of the rooftop swimming pool! We read that there is a general curfew for children on the streets after 9pm. Not sure if that meant unacompanied children.

Other than using Taxi and walking you can get around in Vegas easily using the buses and the Mono-rail. you can see the rail on the photo above. The bus is the cheapest option and they run up and down the strip at about 10 minute intervals. The strip is about 3 miles long and it takes longer than you think to walk, mainly because of the road crossings at the junctions. We used the bus to get to one end of the strip and then walked back.

From memory, the bus was 2 or 3 dollars for one trip and the monorail was about 6 dollars for one trip. You could buy day tickets that made more sense if you were using the Casinos. Be warned, if you use the bus, it isn't much quicker than walking at some times of the day.
