Giorgio Armani profits up 80%, but no plans to list

China led the way for Giorgio Armani SpA’s full year results, which saw sales rise by 4.6 percent to EUR 1.59 billion.

Net profits increased by 80 percent to EUR 161 million for fiscal 2010, compared with EUR 88.8 million for 2009. Chairman and founder Mr. Giorgio Armani said the figures were “very positive” for the company, reflecting Armani’s “capacity to react promptly to the difficulties originating from the crisis that affected both the fashion and luxury sectors.”

Sales in China rose by 36 percent, boosted by the company’s EUR 91 million investment at extending its global store network under which 81 new stores opened in 2010. Overall sales in the Far East accounted for 17 percent of total sales, Europe for 33 percent and North America with 22 percent.

As rumours surrounding a possible IPO for the group build, Mr. Armani took the opportunity this week to speak to Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, in which he stated that he had no plans for a listing or sale of the company:

"I have always associated good cash liquidity with the concepts of independence and solidity," said Mr. Armani, adding that "This way, the advantage is in being able to fix unforeseen situations or take advantage of important opportunities."

Although Mr. Armani said he would not exclude possible acquisitions in the future, he was keen to emphasise that they would be a “novelty” for the company.

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, while the persecution of leftists continued, corporate leaders on the extreme right, continued their criminal rampages in pursuit of profit. Although Rockefeller’s many links to Nazism are too numerous to list here, a few examples are worth noting. In the 1920s, Exxon entered into partnerships with Germany’s top chemical cartel members, BASF and I.G. Farben. The Bank for International Settlements, which helped fund the Nazis before and during WWII, was created in 1930 by the world’s central banks, including the Federal Reserve Bank of NY. Its creation was inspired by the Nazi government and its bankers. Its first president was Gates McGarrah, a Rockefeller banker formerly of Chase National Bank and the “Fed.”

In 1932, Chevron struck oil in Bahrain and was soon operating in Saudi Arabia. In 1933, when Hitler seized power, Standard Oil New Jersey supplied Germany with the patents it required for tetra-ethyl lead aviation fuel.
