Well, the Common Loon I intended to photograph today at Bluegrass FWA failed to make a second appearance, but I got another nice treat in it's place.
Among the many Coots, Grebes and Geese on the lake this morning, there were seven Red-Breasted Mergansers moving about in a group. It was fantastic to watch them team together to fish, grouping tightly together, diving in rapid succession, re-emerging and then regrouping for another dive. The only area where they did not fully cooperate was when one actually caught a fish. Then, it was every bird for himself as the victor would dart away from the pack and swallow the fish as quickly as possible to avoid having to share a meal. Pretty fun stuff!
Africa
Well... I know I've been quiet lately, but I've got my reasons.
I just got home. I spent the last ten days in Kenya. A wonderful week of pure Safari, and pure photography of nature and wildlife. There is just so much to talk about, but for now all I have for you is this.
A minimalistic approach to landscape. A lonely tree in Masai Mara, Kenya... under the warm light of late afternoon taken with a graduated neutral density filter, in combination with a sunset filter.
