Packing Sun Dagger After a Glorious Flight
091010-N-3750S-200 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Oct. 10, 2009) - The envelope of the Sun Dagger hot air balloon is gathered and packed after deflation by members of the chase crew. Here the chase crew drags the packed envelope to the chase crew vehicle for transport back to the field. Chase crews follow their balloons as they fly ensuring they are nearby when the balloons touch ground. Chase crews act as weight to control the balloon on the ground and assist with packing it after the flight. Lt. Jemar Ballesteros, crew member and Cdr. Mike Badorf, commanding officer for USS Albuquerque (SSN-706) and Lt. Victoria Tobin, Navy Office of Community Outreach experienced their first flight in a hot hair balloon aboard Blair Kaufman's Sun Dagger. Badorf, Ballesteros and Tobin were also part of the chase crew and were in Albuquerque supporting Albuquerque Navy Week, one of 21 Navy Weeks planned across America for 2009. Navy Weeks are designed to showcase the investment Americans have made in their Navy and increase awareness in metropolitan areas that do not have a significant Navy presence.
