a game played on a specially designed board
(Board games) Another no-brainer, perhaps due to the close resemblance of the iPad to a real-life board. You you can take your pick: Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, Chutes & Ladders or pretty much anything else would work.
A board game is a game in which counters or pieces are placed, removed, or moved on a premarked surface or "board" according to a set of rules. Games may be based on pure strategy, chance or a mixture of the two and usually have a goal which a player aims to achieve.

Home Ice Advantage
It started with the love of the game that blossomed as my 7yr old daughter took up the stick, and with it, the game of hockey. City cutbacks over the years had seen our neighbourhood rink go from 2 rinks – lit and boarded, complete with changing shacks… to what he have now… a circular patch of ice formed by a water truck carelessly dumping its cargo where the old rinks used to stand. No more do the lights brighten the darkness and the smiles of neighbourhood kids.
It was for them and for my daughter that I started construction of my little dream this winter.
Constructed out of 2x10s, 1x3s, plywood, a hundred pounds of screws and a liner – it is much more than the sum of its parts. It’s an oasis where the neighbourhood kids can once again take to the ice – shoot pucks into a net, play tag or get warm in the shack next to the rink.
It’s not the biggest rink (at 22’x 48’), nor is it the fanciest – this is a rink belonging to a blue collared family. It has no painted lines this year, or advertising on the boards – but maybe next year. For now, what it lacks in detail, it makes up for in heart… and by just existing.
It stands ready now, day and night, waiting for the drop of a puck, the tap of a stick, and the sweet sound of metal on ice.
Notre Dame 2, Northern Michigan 1
My recollection: "Inside, the tiny Joyce Center ice rink (it only seats 2,667), we hecklers hatched a wonderful plan. Last night, the performance of the national anthem was horrible. The girl who sang it screwed up twice and ended up following our lead. So tonight's performance was by the Glee Club and we were pretty sure they weren't going to screw it up.
Nevertheless, someone hatched the idea to write out the lyrics to 'Oh Canada' on our big board that we bring along to games and sing it immediately following the National Anthem. And that we did. And it was beautiful. The players and referees all stood at attention as we all belted out the words Jeff had written down on the board. It was awesome, and we got an ovation from the crowd for our efforts and a smile from Duke Shegos, the head ref of the game.
Onto the game, we won so that was awesome. The seniors were a little sad because it was their last regular season home game but nevertheless we had a lot of fun with it. Aniket Dhadphale and Ryan Dolder scored (again!) and the game ended 2-1 (although Northern Michigan's lone goal was somewhat of an afterthought late in the game)."
