I did this out of curiosity, mostly, to gauge where I should be practicing my 25-laps-in-5-minutes for derby assessments. Drawn to scale, it shows the standard roller derby track dimensions (WFTDA), as seen inside the dimensions of a standard (*NHL) hockey rink. YMMV on the size of your rec inline hockey rink, though. NHL standard positions the two lines 25' on either side of the center line, and a derby track measures 88' end to end, so if you can only measure one thing, mark off the track ends at 19' past each of those two outer lines, and spot from there.

Locals: Rollingbrook rink is only 175' long, so it's a good deal shorter than this; spot your track ends just intersecting the end circles. I'll stick some small squares of duct tape out there next time.

*there isn't a standard for inline hockey rinks. Rules state that rinks should be "as near as possible to 185 feet long and 85 feet wide...", which is 15' shorter than the NHL hockey rink dimensions. So despite the scale, it's still just a rough guide. Whatever. #blamethewhiskey

Our Seats are Where!?! (0918 crop)

Our Seats are Where!?! (0918 crop)

At my husband's office holiday party, there were some raffles going on and he put all of his tickets in the bucket for a pair of Flyers tickets. Sure enough, he won! Not only were they tickets, they were tickets in a box! With Flyers games, we're just happy to be anywhere in the building b/c tix are so dang expensive, but a box!?! For free!?!? Count me in!

On top of that, my new wide angle lens came the other week, so why not try it out to see its range since our tix were smack at center ice (like 3 ft. to one side of the red line!)? The lens was at 18mm here, so not too shabby! Just had to fidget to shoot around railings, etc.
