My baby is going to hospital

My baby is going to hospital

I dropped my 5D today – the first time I have dropped any of my cameras. Ever. With a lens attached.

It happened earlier on today at home (before I went to my mum's and took photographs of Honey). I'd just had a shower. My hands were moist from using some body lotion. I was holding my camera with both hands when I took it to another room, then as I went to turn around to pick something up, I moved to hold the camera with my dominant hand. But I moved too quickly. Next thing I know, the whole camera (several kilos of it) has slipped through my fingers.

As it all happened so quickly and I knew it was falling, I made no attempt to catch it as it fell – even though there was a good chance I would've caught it. I was worried that I might have swooped down to catch it but knocked it into the floor instead, causing it to fall directly onto the lens with the body falling into it, rather than onto the battery grip on the base of the camera (which is what happened).

After initially checking the camera, I removed the lens to check the mount on the camera. The camera itself was fine, and at the time, the lens seemed fine. It was only when I was coming home on the train earlier that I noticed slivers of black plastic coming off in my hands – I realised it had come off the lens. Then when I went to hold the focusing ring, the front elements housed there were loose – as became apparent through the distance meter.

At the moment, the lens is still holding itself together, but only just. So tomorrow I have to send the lens to Canon to see what they can do and get a quote. I know I can go to Fixation, but I don't like their "We'll serve you, but we prioritise professionals," attitude. Plus at least I can liaise with Canon directly and not somebody 'authorised' by Canon.

Of all the lenses I have that I could've attempted to break, it had to be the most expensive one. I'm still rather distraught about it all – if my lens is beyond repair, I can't afford to get the same one again, considering the price of glass these days. I can only dream of getting the same lens again for the ?780 I paid for it.

037/365: my car

037/365: my car

#Day 037/365: my car

Sent my car in for repair, due to breaking system problem. Wanted to do that since month ago, finally to send my wife into garage for a quick fix.

burned my wallet, ouch!

fed up with the original break pad from Perodua®. have to change every 4-6 months and the traction also not that good. the pads are flatten and uneven, bad!

I have the break discs trimmed and installed a new pair of break pads. the mechanic told me it should be able to hold me for a year plus before replace a new one. they can take at least 500 degree Celsius of heat, so it is good for my driving style.

i been told to able to feel the traction after 50-100kms of driving since the discs are newly trimmed flat. soon after the garage, i have her a spin right away for testing purpose. new pads and they already break in hard grip. love it!

then, i had sent her to snowy-washy-washy... now is sparky-blinky-blinky from top body to sport rims. i have even done the rain repellent on windscreen/windows and wiper recondition by myself. new in-car fragrance as well! (i have not look after like that for ages, i missed the old days that i can shower for her by my own hands).

"you take care of your car, your car will take care of you" - quote

I LOVE YOU~!!!!!

*She is not SE (Sport Edition), just original stock installation from outside and inside. But, do not fool her on the road. She is RS (Racing Spec) in the spirit*
