a detachable plate that covers the closed end of a cylinder chamber in a reciprocating engine or pump
The end cover of a cylinder in an internal combustion engine, against which the piston compresses the cylinder's contents
In an internal combustion engine, the cylinder head (often informally abbreviated to just head) sits above the cylinders on top of the cylinder block.
A reverse-flow or non-crossflow cylinder head is one that locates the intake and exhaust ports on the same side of the engine. The gases can be thought to enter the cylinder head and then change direction in order to exit the head. This is in contrast to the crossflow cylinder head design.

A cord securing a furled sail to the yard, boom, or gaff of a sailing vessel
In sailing, gaskets are lengths of rope or fabric used to hold a stowed sail in place. In modern use, the term is usually restricted to square-rigged ships, the equivalent items on yachts being referred to by the more prosaic "sail ties".

GM Five Cylinder Head Details -- Spark Plug Hole
While processing cores at work, this used cylinder head from a Chevrolet Canyon truck (a five cylinder engine) caught my eye. Image converted to duotone (black and white) via PhotoImpact software.

Cylinder head underside
Typical nasty underside of a well-used, but functional, 4G63 cylinder head. The 4G63 long block is a very robust design. Too bad they were mated with such pathetic alternators. Everyone who's owned a T/E/L knows what I'm talking about. :-)
