Experience Jazz brings 25 young musicians to Ascona
For the first time JazzAscona presents a project that will involve 25 young musicians from Swiss jazz schools, offering them the opportunity to participate in concerts and workshops from June 25 to July 2.
Split into five different bands, the young musicians will daily perform in concerts, in different contexts and situations, in order to stimulate their versatility.
Experience Jazz is promoted by Nicolas Gilliet, JazzAscona’s artistic director, in collaboration with George Robert, musician and director Department of Jazz at the Lausanne Conservatory. The project wants to bring young musicians closer to traditional jazz, by filling a gap that can be observed in jazz schools, which tend to forget the tradition’s practical application. Experience Jazz aims at being an occasion of artistic growth, one in which these young musicians can confront themselves both with a style that might not be part of their daily musical repertoire and with a specific audience such as that of JazzAscona.
A jury will confer a distinction to the best band, on the basis of musical quality, concept, flexibility, chemistry among the band members, and feeling for the audience.
