Pietro Condorelli - The White Night Jazz Festival - Avellino, Campania (Italy)

He was born in Milan, on January 4th, 1962.
Guitarist and composer , since 1980 he has been carrying out an intense professional activity in Italy and abroad, mainly in jazz ambits, but he doesn't disdain radio, television, recording and theatrical productions both as a guitarist and an arranger.
After he got the D.A.M.S. degree ( in Bologna in 1985 ) he began his freelance actuvity, collaborating in some occasions or in brief tours with musicians like: Urbie Green, Steve Turre, Charles Tolliver, Ghunter Shuller, Steve La Spina, Bruce Forman, Wendell Harrison, Billy Hart and Jeff Hirshfield, Bob Mover, Tom Kirkpatrick; and recording also with: Jerry Bergonzi, George Cables, Gary Bartz, Dick Oatts, Bruce Gertz, Cameron Brown, Jimmy Wood, Sa Davis, David Gross and Jimmy Owens with whom he played from 1989 to 1995.
In June 1989 he took part in a brief tour in the U.S.A. with his own group SONORA ART QUARTET (managed with Marco Sannini) , at request of the Italian Institute of Culture in New York. In the same year he recorded this group's first CD with Jerry Bergonzi's sharing.
From 1994 to 1996 he played with the "AREA" group.
He taught from 1994 to 1997 at the conservatoire "Stanislao Giacomantonio" in Cosenza, leading the local Big band in several concerts.
Particularly active in the sphere of teaching, Condorelli has led a lot of clinics about improvisation, arrangement or guitar technique, taking part in CEE-Regione Calabria-C.J.C. courses of professional training and teaching guitar at C.P.M. in Pomigliano D'Arco and at "A.N.D.J.".
In 1996 he published two collections of original compositions: JAZZ COMPOSITIONS and JAZZ SCORES (Brigante Editore), a text about improvisation and one text about orchestra practices edited by Centro Jazz Calabria; moreover a Mick Goodrick' book of transcriptions is now in press (Casa Musicale Tarasconi).
In the last ten years he has been carrying out a work of research on the various expressive possibilities of the guitar universe, examining closely the stylistic differences from jazz to rock, from ethnic music to funk, devoting himself also to classic guitar whose degree he got as a self-taught man.
Now he is active with his own Quartet or in "Solo" performances.
He won the last Top Jazz of "Musica Jazz" in the section "new talents".

The light was crummy, the room was festooned with photos, souvenirs, lots of visual distractions. I wanted to focus on the musicians, try to do more than just snapshots of a band. But this isn't a set, it's a small basement room, and my lenses aren't really up to the low light. Some shots could be fixed in Photoshop, and I tried to minimize the background distractions without heavy-handed techniques. I was fairly successful if you see the original, which you never will. The originals look like snapshots of guys playing music in a small basement room.

Anyway, this is Rick of Seeking the Elephant, and he was always in motion and very hard to catch, especially with my lack of skill and equipment. Most photos of him were blurry, but I managed to get a few almost not blurry shots, except for his hands, which I like. He was playing some fast guitar here.
