There are no concrete pumping trucks so bowls of the mix is handed person to person up a scaffolding. The scaffolding is built entirely out of straight sticks bound together with wire and rope. In the cities they use rented metal structures for large buildings, however I saw wooden scafolding for a couple 20-story office buildings and water towers in Delhi. There is also no PPE. Most laborers are barefoot or wrap plastic around their feet to keep the wet concrete off of it. Although I haven't seen any statistics or anything no seems to consider this a dangerous job. Just a very hot and strenuous one.

A construction project outside my hotel room in Hyderabad. I thought Keith would like to see the way they hold the floors up and the different levels of flooring (which nearly made me fall on my face at the office occasionally). They also hand carry buckets of concrete up -- no pumping here when labor is so cheap!
