The Danish Home Guard (Hjemmev?rnet) (HJV) is the fourth service of the Danish military, formerly concerned only with the defence of Danish territory, but since 2008, it has also participated in forward operating base guard duties in Afghanistan.

During the First World War a Home Guard was organised of local men who were either too old to go to war, or were declared medically unfit to fight. The Guard gave the home front extra protection and allowed the men still at home to feel they were contributing to the war effort.
