Mercy Air is part of Air Methods; the company transports more than 98,000 patients annually who require intensive medical care from either the scene of an accident or general care hospitals to highly skilled trauma centers or tertiary care centers. Air Methods operates a fleet of 300 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft at 249 bases in 42 states, and is headquartered in Englewood, Colo.

From my Fire Department experience, the medevac helicopter was one of the best tools I had access to: Traffic accidents on the freeway, for example, caused gridlock and blocked ground ambulances -- from both responding to the collision and to the emergency care facility. I could land a helicopter very close to my incident, and get them airborne to further medical care in a fraction of the time. And time is Golden when lives are involved. Looking at the history of M*A*S*H helicopter transport, right thru today's hostilities, has proven this to be priceless.

Air Algerie is in the process of becoming a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance. Bilateral codeshare agreements, frequent flyer programs and airport lounge agreements with each of the SkyTeam carriers must be in place before it can meet the alliance's membership requirements.
