(heat pump) apparatus that extracts heat from a liquid that is at a higher temperature than its surroundings; can be used to transfer heat from a reservoir outside in order to heat a building
A device that transfers heat from a colder area to a hotter area by using mechanical energy, as in a refrigerator
(HEAT PUMP) A product that works just like an air conditioner is cooling mode; however, in heating mode, the refrigerant flow is reversed and heat is extracted from the outside air to heat your home.

Fireside Home Construction | 2010 EVHA Silver Award Winner
Fireside Homes, according to the EVHA judges, "Appears to be doing everything it can (that is economically feasible) to design, build, and market an excellent home." The company's attention to detail in site planning, pre-construction energy analyses, and the construction process resulted in an exceptionally tight home and a noteworthy HERS index. The builder systematically incorporated a variety of energy-efficient technologies—ICFs, SIPs, a geothermal heat pump, heat recovery ventilation, spray foam insulation, and high efficiency lighting—into a single, high-performance package.
Chitty cabin
This cabin was built in 2009. It has a number of sustainable and energy efficient features including icynene insulation, aerated concrete block foundation and conditioned crawlspace, high efficiency heat pump, and a high efficiency hot water heater. Many of the products used in the cabin were locally produced, including the log package, fireplace mantle and trim, wood for cabinets and countertops, as well as the stone for the fireplace. Many of these items came from the homeowner's property.
