Sump Pump Gfci
- A sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water collecting sump pit, commonly found in the basement of homes.

- (Sump Pumps) Sump pumps are responsible for pumping excess ground water from the basement to the outside of the home. For those of you that have ever experience water back up in your basement, you know all about how much cleaning is involved and how much damage can be caused.

GFI / GFCI shut down the circuit when an electrocution hazard is detected - unlike circuit breakers which only shut the power off when the circuit is overloaded. More specifically, the GFCI cuts the power when t...he current returning via the neutral doesn't match the power going out via the hot wire. In theory, one _could_ plug a radio, toaster, hair dryer, etc. into one of these outlets, sit in bathtub full of water, drop the appliance in, and the power will be instantly disconnected. I don't think I'd want to test it, though!
Installing GFCI Outlet - After
This is with the new GFCI outlet and white lightswitch installed. All white and pretty. I'm electrically racist, w00t!
Amusingly, the instructions for the outlet made a big deal about using the self-test after you turn the power back on to make sure it's wired correctly, but there are only two sets of terminals and one of them is very clearly labeled "for load only" (i.e. you don't use those unless you're wiring it in series with another outlet downstream) Who could screw that up?
