Automatic Bilge Pumps
- (Bilge pump) electric pump that pumps out water from a boat. Usually connected to a float switch that makes it turn on automatically if too much water enters a boat compartment.
- (Bilge pump) A mechanism for emptying the bilge of water. Since all wooden ships would leak to some degree, pumps were always in demand. Spray and waves would only add to how much water a ship took on.

this big excitement here in the marina today is a nasty diesel spill from one of the hideously ugly powerboats on our dock -- a fuel line spontaneously disconnected itself, the fuel went into the bilge, and the automatic pump sent it right out into the marina, yuck. the fire dept. has been here & the water is now littered with those little absorbent pads, trying to soak up all the fuel, but everything smells like diesel, and the water has a pretty-but-ugly rainbow slick on it...
oh, and i bought a lemon tree. in a pot. can't wait for the lemons!
