Oilwell Mud Pump
- A mud pump is a reciprocating piston/plunger device designed to circulate drilling fluid under high pressure (up to 7500 PSI) down the drill string and back up the annulus.
- the heavy duty pump that recirculates the water through the drill rods to lubricate the drilling action in a rotary drill.
- An oil well is a general term for any boring through the earth's surface that is designed to find and acquire petroleum oil hydrocarbons. Usually some natural gas is produced along with the oil. A well that is designed to produce mainly or only gas may be termed a gas well.
Dime Box Blow-out - Dime Box, Texas
Taken around 1984 or 1985. Camera is facing East/South East. During drilling, a high pressure oil gas blew up and out around the surface casing (pipe). A spark set off the flame and melted the down the drilling rig. The gas brought up salt water and drilling mud and formed a large bubbling pit of flaming salt water. It was impossible to cap off. Boots & Coots / Red Adair with Halliburton Services pumped MILLIONS of pounds of concret into the ground via a nearby well untill the gas was snuffed out. I was an oil field services salesman the time of the photo. A year later I got a job at Halliburton Services where I soon got in trouble for taking photos at work, but that was nothing new. I'll try and find some of those photos.
Pipe Barn section 1 w/mud pump
there are 3 sections of pipe barn, the first contains the mud pumps on the first floor and electric room second in the front section. the rest is for pipe storage. the 3 sections total 180 x 180 feet.
