  • The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. It was first released by the United States Mint on November 24, 1986. It is struck only in the one-troy ounce size which has a nominal face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of 99.

  • (SILVER EAGLES) designation for the US Army Aviation Precision Demonstration Team, organized in May 1972 for public display of typical helicopter skillcraft, performed nationwide at air shows, patriotic events, and other fairs.

  • This is for "Mint State" (the grade) and "70" (the numerical designation of that grade). A perfect coin! Even with 5X magnification there are no marks, hairlines or luster breaks in evidence. The luster is vibrant, the strike is razor-sharp, and the eye appeal is the ultimate.

Mintage: 732

Secure Plus Holder. One of 732 business strikes produced. There are just four Liberty Head eagles that have mintages below 1,000: the 1873, the ultra-rare 1875, the 1876 and the 1877. Of the three, the 1876 trails the first two on the list but it is considerably scarcer than the 1877. I think there are around three dozen known at most with the majority in the EF40 to AU50 range. This example is, as usual, semi-prooflike with scattered abrasions seen in the fields. I have seen or sold nearly all of the higher grade 1876 eagles and this piece compares favorably with most of them. In recent times, the only better example I can recall seeing was Stacks 6/09: 1056, graded AU55 by PCGS, that sold for a strong $32,200. There are auction records of over $10,000 for EF and low-end AU 1876 eagles dating back to the 1990's. I have noticed in the last year or so that collectors are finally paying attention to super low-mintage coins like this and the level of interest (and prices) is clearly on the upswing.

Mintage: 62,000

I've probably handled over half of the 1846-O quarter eagles graded AU58 by PCGS and I'd have to say that this is among the nicest. It is somewhat weakly struck as is typical but the luster is virtually complete and the surfaces have never been scrubbed or enhanced. The population figures for this date are misleading as many have been resubmitted and others are inferior for the grade. I regard a properly graded AU58 as a scarce issue and with the jump up to the next grade being a high multiple (an MS61 will cost you more than double the price) a choice slider is an excellent value for most collectors.
