The Manger Hotel (named after the Manger hotel chain) was designed by H. Craig Severance and opened in 1926. The 22-story hotel had 2,250 rooms and cost $10 million. H. Craig Severance also designed 40 Wall Street, 70-story skyscraper originally known as the Bank of Manhattan Trust building.

According to Wikipedia it was renamed for William Howard Taft in 1931 after being sold. In its modern configuration the Taft Hotel now houses The Michelangelo Hotel with 178 rooms and a 440-unit residential condominium called Executive Plaza.

The Taft Hotel, which opened in 1926, leased to the Roxy Theater the south west corner of the building in 1931. The Roxy used the space for its lobby. The Mary Astor film 'Smart Woman' and a short called 'Football Thrills' were the first movies ever shown at the Roxy in late 1931. This corner of the hotel now houses a TGI Fridays.

The Grand Bay at Equitable Center opened within the old Taft Hotel in 1986. Developers including, the Continental Companies, put between $35 million and $40 million into the new hotel. It was patterned after the Grand Bay Hotel at Coconut Grove, the Continental Companies' successful luxury-level hotel in Miami. Continental Properties had hoped to develop a chain of such hotels with Grand Bay as its signature name and is looking for other East Coast development opportunities

Park Lane Hotels (Chan family from Hong Kong) bought what was then known as the Grand Bay Hotel for $74,500,000 (or $418,539 per room)in August, 1989. Park Lane had had hoped to grow its brand, lead by the 1,005 room Park 55 in San Francisco and the 805 room Park Lane Hong Kong to international awareness.

Starhotels (Ferruccio Fabri family from Florence, Italy) bought the Parc 51 from Park Lane Hotels for $38,900,000 (or $218,539 per room) in June 1992.

The Fountains of Bellagio

The Fountains of Bellagio

One more of my favourite fountains!!

Bellagio is a 30 story luxury hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in the Paradise area of unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, USA and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It is owned by MGM Mirage and was built on the site of the demolished Dunes hotel and casino.

Inspired by the Lake Como resort of Bellagio in Italy, Bellagio is famed for its elegance. One of its most notable features is an 8-acre (3.2 ha) lake between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronized to music.

The Fountains of Bellagio is a vast, choreographed water feature with performances set to light and music. (See musical fountain.) The performances take place in front of the Bellagio hotel and are visible from numerous vantage points on the Strip, both from the street and neighboring structures. The show takes place every 30 minutes in the afternoons and early evenings, and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. to midnight.
