Black OMC Eagle

This black Eagle is more correctly called a Silver Eagle. The "silver" part comes from the Aluminum engine. This one has an electric start, great for over-the-hill riders like me. My Silver Eagle is unrestored and I would not want to park it along side something like this.

Before the Silver Eagle came along with it's OMC OHV 9-hp aluminum single, all Cushman scooters had a cast iron Husky engine. Huskys came with 1.5 hp back in the 1930's, Then two hp, 4 hp, and 4.8 hp (usually called a "five.") In the Early 50's the old cast iron Husky got a major re-design and became the "square block' Husky with five, 7.3 and eight hp. All of the single cylinder OMC engines used in two wheeled Cushmans were nine horsepower. An 18 hp, 2 cylinder opposed OMC was used in some three and four wheeled Cushmans.

The OMC engines were made by Outboard Marine Corp. the parent company of Cushman. They were installed at the Cushman factory in Lincoln, Nebraska. That means they are really Cushman engines. The aluminum, OHV design was considered modern at the time and with 9 hp, they are good performers.

That squared off rear cover and OMC engine identifies this as a Cushman Super Silver Eagle.

I like the all-white paint on this beauty. It even has white wall tires.
