The Motels are a New Wave music band from the Los Angeles area best known for "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer", both of which peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Their song "Total Control" reached #4 on the Australian charts in 1980.

This motel is connected to the back of a furniture store and really has a bit of a skeezy reputation of renting by the hour... though I don't know if it's true or well deserved.
I've been meaning to photograph the sign for a while, there used to be a lot of motels on this stretch of land, but they're gone or repurposed now except for this one.

Airport Motel
The airport motel near the Lawrence, Kansas airport is very small and it has a sign showing a plane too large to land on the runway. This is a vintage motel but the sign is relatively new.
