Ornate French Baroque Cross Necklace
If you are into crosses, here’s a unique little item you won’t find anywhere else. Technically, this is called a Crux Gemmata, which means a cross inlaid with gems. This form was originally inspired by the cult of the cross that arose after Saint Helena's discovery of the “true cross” in Jerusalem in 327. It was in all the newspapers at the time. They didn’t have TV back then. The design was re-popularized in France in the early 1600’s during the time of Cardinal Richelieu, the Musketeers (not to be confused with the Mousketeers) and all that snotty French aristocracy. But this is way more history than you usually have to wade through even here at 2Roses.
The technique used to produce the pattern and textures is metal stamping. we make all of our own stamps from scratch the old fashioned way, by hand. The cross is built up in three distinct layers that are cold joined by custom brass rivets. The cross measures 3 in. high.
