I've been finding these pieces around Portland for many years now, but have never been able to photograph one before. They were brought to my attention by a friend of mine who also seemed to run into them whithout a camera. The first one we saw said "Satan is as dumb as a Blazers fan," and was epoxied to a sidewalk near the north side of the bridge that takes 12th St. over I-84. I went back to find it the next day, but it was gone. Over the years, I've seen a few more, and heard many stories of others that have seen them. They all mention Satan, have a similar switch in font color, and are written on flooring material. The ones I've seen have all been on the ground, but I've heard of one being on a wall. Until this morning, when I found this one on Hawthorne next to Jarra's on my way to school, and returned in the afternoon with my camera, I'd never been able to photograph one. Perhaps posting it around the internet will lead to more clues explaining what these could possibly be about.

I think both of us are astonished that we actually accomplished this project over one weekend...and both the bench and cabinets look great! I kept stepping back and thinking "holy crap! This is exactly what I've always wanted!" Ever since I visited the Ford World Rally workshop, I've always wanted to build a neat, clean work area.

The most amazing thing? With the salvaged cabinets, the whole bench unit and cabinets cost under $200 including lumber, fasteners, paint, and supplies!
