Plaster, pigment
New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, reign of Akhenaten, ca. 1352-1336 BC
Tell al-Amarna, Maru Aten
The floors of many buildings at Tell el-Amarna, the capital of Amenhotep IV (Akhenaton) and his wife, Nefertiti, were brightly painted with naturalistic scenes. This fragment is decorated with cornflower that appear to sway in the breeze, an emphasis upon nature which is a hallmark of the art of that king's reign.
