a component of dry schlerophyll forest. The spotted gum doesn't lose all of its leaves every year, although it does shed its bark; neither does it have dormant periods. Its growth is continual, enabling it to generate a growth spurt whenever conditions are right.

Spotted gums
In Murramarang National Park in southern coastal NSW there is a magnificent forest of spotted gums and burrawangs/macrozamias. We walked through the forest early morning when it was shrouded in sea mist - very spectacular.
This photo is a scanned Kodak print taken in 1991.
It's interesting that my prints (Kodak) of this area have kept their colour better than my slides (non-Kodak)!
