Floor Medallions
These are photos I took of etched artwork in limestone and travertine.
The first one on the left is of a stone rug I drew and then etched into 18x18 travertine tiles and then had installed in the music room of a home in the river bottoms of Provo, Utah in 2004.
The second is a detail of an image from clip art that we etched into a piece of Italian limestone, I think Botticino.
The third photo I took of a detail from a section of a stone rug etched into super white travertine from Mexico.
The fourth image again is clip art that we scanned into a computer and then laser etched into a piece of Crema Marfil. All of these are color enhanced using a Minwax wood stain of various colors after the image is etched into the stone.
The photos were used by permission and were taken from a website for a company who has purchased the laser and the rights to the art work and the photographs.
Floor Medallion
This mosaic floor medallion was almost destroyed due to renovation plans in the 1970's. A noted political columnist, James Nesbitt, camped out in the rotunda with his sleeping bag and shotgun so to kept away workers who were going to replace the floor with linoleum tile. (Now, that's some radical historic preservation!)
Thanks to him and archivist, Willard Ireland, the mosaic remains on the main floor under the dome in the Parliament Building.
