Oregon Boot leg iron

Oregon Boot leg iron

The Oregon Boot was patented in May 16, 1876 by the Oregon State Penitentiary Warden, J.C. Gardner. The idea was to find a
modern follower to the “ball and chain”. The donut is very heavy and placed on a support which is screwed to the underside
of the prisoner's boot or shoe. This heavy donut prevented the prisoner from running. After some time with the Boot on, the
prisoner often got severe injuries in the leg and the Boot was forbidden in many states. The Oregon Boot was manufactured in
different weights and with different type of locks. The lock on the Boot below is ingenious. The key has two tubes with two different threads; one side is used to open the Boot by unscrewing the bolt. The other side is used to tighten the bolt and lock the Boot.

Oregon Rain

A very typical Oregon day. Shot while working on the stop movie short. So I had this in black and white and then right before I uploaded it I changed it to color... thoughts? The green is just such a good color.
