Electrical Mining Equipment

Electrical Fault Detection on Downed DC Trolley Lines
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Pittsburgh Research Center (PRC), has conducted research to improve electrical fault detection on coal mine direct current (dc) trolley systems. Present circuit breaker protection systems are current-magnitude-based and cannot discern between normal traffic and high resistance electrical faults. Tests were conducted at cooperating mines to assist in developing a neural-network-based detection algorithm for distinguishing between electrical faults and normal operation. The Fast Fourier Transform of the trolley rectified current signature served as baseline data for the neural network. During field tests, the algorithm performed with greater than 90% accuracy.

Since it was founded more than 80 years ago, Victaulic has continuously developed new innovations that change the industry. For example, the Victaulic systems for high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe was developed to allow for bolted mechanical assembly without the need for heat fusing machinery. This resulted in greater safety, faster installation and the productivity benefit of not requiring electrical connections for fusing equipment.
By Belt and Wheel
Today, machines used in machine shops are electrical, whilst smaller machines are even battery powered. But of course it wasn't always this way.
In the early 1900's, machine shops such as this one where belt driven. A motor would provide power to the equipment vial belts and wheels.
