Marion Grade School
On N. Main. This is my fourth attempt at shooting this damn thing. It's finally in focus, no sun obliterating half of it, it's from far enough back to get some detail; I consider myself finally done. Which is good, because I'm tired of the gas station attendants next door to it staring at me.
One thing I like about this is that it was built in a small town, far from the nearest large city, so you can see how old-fashioned the architecture still is. Built in 1921, it looks a lot older. On the other hand, Moderne influence has crept in a little; check out the huge chunk of glass block and the scrolls, which aren't detailed like you might expect. They're more stylized. It's an interesting hybrid of two eras.
Graduation Day
Graduations are taking place all around this time of year. This one is from my brother's graduation from kindergarten in 1977; he is the one sitting in the center. He has his diploma neatly matted, framed, and hanging on the wall of his office at work.
Notice that he was quite the fashion trend-setter for 5-year-olds back then. Someone get that mirror ball out!
