I modified my existing pinafore pattern to make a newborn sized one. Her parents have gone with a sort of modern tropical style, so I thought this would suit her. {Reverses to Amy Butler orange floating buds~ sorry I should have taken photos before I wrapped it up. Last minute gifting, you know ;) }

Note to self: Buy more AB fabric! I've actually made about 10 (yes 10!) of these pinnies in the last 2 weeks for new babies, as it seems everyone I know is birthing all over the place. I unconsciously choose AB fabrics for 9 out of the 10, and didn't realize it until later. When hesitant in making fabric choices for people whose taste I am not completely familiar with, Amy Butler fabric seems the perfect go-to choice apparently, pretty and girly and classic.

This baby suit is a beautiful example of infant's clothing in the 1960s. It would have been suitable for a baby girl or boy, even though the embroidered detail and trim is in a light blue shade. It was made by a British manufacturer, 'Rob Roy'. It belonged to the Young family of North Berwick.

This cream suit has short sleeves, elasticated leg area and buttoned openings. Three delicately embroidered flowers, together with a blue trim and ruched panel decorate the front of the garment.

Man made fabrics became increasingly popular throughout the 1950's and 60's. This outfit is made from a fabric called terylene, a type of polyester. This fabric is soft, yet hard wearing, making it ideal for baby garments.
