(Flower Gardens) I created a series of collages as a result of travels in Holland during the spring of 2006 when the commercial flower fields and public gardens were in bloom. My heart was filled with the beauty and abundance.

Pacific Sunset Flannel Bush - Fremontodendron
Pacific Sunset Flannel Bush - Fremontodendron in May 2010
Fremontias need full sun, minimal water & fertilizer, plenty of room, and well drained soil. Pacific Sunset and Mexicanum are two of my favorite varieties. Fast growth, interesting appearance, and showy flowers add this this plant's garden value. Perfect for any Southwest/ Mediterranean garden. Flannel Bush is increasing less common due to habitat loss, invasive species and human-based wildfires.
Leaves, stems and seeds have a fuzzy texture that many California native plants have to prevent water loss from their tissues. The hairs on the seeds pods have been known to irritate some sensitive skin, but I have no problem with it.
Grandmother's flower garden quilt
Now I know this is going to be a long project but I have challenged myself to use up all the scraps left from the two daybed quilts! As they were mostly 21/2" squares a hexagon quilt seemed like a really good idea. This is just a sample of the fabrics left.
