Thanks to Bill Kemp, Archivist and Historian of the McLean County Museum of History, who provided the following historical background on this building.
"(T)hat “high rise” was once occupied by local furniture store concerns. In 1915, for instance, the city directory shows it as the J.E. Will Co. (a locally owned furniture business), and by 1925 it was home to the Bloomington Furniture and Stove Exchange. In the 1930s through the 1950s it was McKnight & McKnight, a local publishing company specializing in educational textbooks, workbooks, etc., many relating to the industrial arts. By 1982 or thereabouts it became the Downtowner, a residence for senior citizens, and it remains that today."
