Marcus Aurelius Mural: composition based on equestrian bronze currently located at the Capitolino Museum, Rome which exemplifies the eloquent gesture of the emperor’s extended arm as a “benevolent conqueror”; enemies head he who was touched, life who was forgiven. The right hand image is flanked by naturalist portraiture of Pompey resembling the ubiquity of governance at a moment of republican turmoil. The juxtaposition, although pertaining to different historical periods, brings together the psychological complexity inherent to the notion of civilization. The mural was originally designed for Italian men’s clothing store “Franco Ballotta” in addition to furniture and corporate image design inspired by Roman antiquity.
